‘Rewards and challenges’

CSIR | Best Employers SA 2011/12 ‘I am currently responsible for the distribution of tasks within our research group and often called upon to plan and oversee large research projects. I also attract funding and ensure that the research group is sustainable, which I find challenging. I have in the past mentored, supervised, provided assistance to and been involved in the career development of a number of staff members. It is most rewarding to see someone grow and progress to higher levels. I love the research at the CSIR because it is applied and as a statistician I work in various different fields. Although this can be extremely challenging, it also eliminates possible boredom.’

Dr Pravesh Debba, 41, Principal Researcher, has a PhD in Statistics. He joined the CSIR in 2008.
