Introduction

Denel Land System’s (DLS) business is to conceptualise, design, develop, manufacture, integrate, supply and support a range of landward defence systems, including artillery systems, infantry systems, combat turrets and infantry security force weapons. The company’s strength lies in the unique fine balance of technologies and engineering capabilities allowing it to take complex systems or products through its whole life cycle, from conceptualisation, systems design, development, testing and qualification to industrialisation and production, product support and eventual decommissioning.

‘Stimulating work environment’

Denel Land Systems | Best Employers SA 2011/12 ‘I joined Denel Land Systems in September 2009 as a contractor and started as a permanent employee in January 2010. At present I’m a structural designer and my responsibilities are to design and generate drawing to the finest detail. ‘It is stimulating to work in an environment where we are designing complex, high-tech weapons systems. The personnel at Denel are professional and treat their work seriously and you get to interact with personnel from other departments. ‘To succeed at Denel, you need to be a person with good interpersonal skills, a go-getter, be hardworking, dexterous, understanding and able to communicate your needs and intentions clearly.’

Sello Mcobeni, 27, has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering).
