Introduction

Joy Global is a worldwide leader in high-productivity mining solutions, represented in over 20 countries across six continents. Through its market-leading businesses – P&H Mining Equipment and Joy Mining Machinery – the company manufactures and markets original equipment and aftermarket parts and services for both the underground and surface mining industries and certain industrial applications.

‘Understand the company’s goals and commit to achieving them’

Joy Global | Best Employers SA 2011/12 ‘It’s a real challenge to work in a male-dominated industry, particularly as the first female Production Manager in a big company like Joy. It’s quite tough to lead a team of men, who at times find it difficult to take instructions from a woman due to their cultural beliefs. However, I have found that the key lies in being respectful and not undermining anyone or their ideas. ‘To thrive at Joy Global, you need to be a highly dedicated and performance-driven person who understands the company’s goals and shows commitment towards achieving those goals. It helps that, at Joy Global, individual performance is recognised and rewarded.’

Rachel Mabudi, 33, has a BTech Degree in Production Management. She joined Joy Global Africa in February 2007 as a Logistics Process Engineer and is currently occupying the position of Manager, Conveyor Products.
