Introduction
Microsoft established its South African operation in 1992 and has since grown into a major player in the country’s economy. The company is driven at all levels by the objective of its founder, Bill Gates, to bring technology to as many people as possible. The digital divide and access to affordable information and communications technology infrastructure remains one of the major challenges for South Africa – and many other developing countries. Using the success of its international standing and emulating proven business models, Microsoft South Africa’s business model has been adapted to suit local markets.
‘We all have a passion for what we do’

‘I take care of the Bidvest software needs across all 950 companies. For me, the best part about working at Microsoft is being part of a driven family. Everyone here is driven by something – be it success, money or customers. We all have a passion for what we do. We put in 110% and in turn Microsoft takes care of our wellbeing. The challenges in my job stem from managing such a large account – but it’s exciting too. I am able to learn about a variety of different industries. To thrive in this environment you need to understand the value you add and use your skills to make yourself and the company successful.’
Pearl Schrimpton, 38, is the Bidvest Corporate Account Manager. She has a BA (Law) from UNISA.
