Introduction
Many South Africans have never heard of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA). However, this schedule 3A private company, which was established in 1999, actually impacts on the lives of each and every South African – because each citizen has an identity document thanks in part to SITA. In short, SITA is the IT arm of the largest employer and consumer of IT products and services in South Africa; the government.
‘I want to make a contribution’

‘I am the Senior Manager for a section comprising 80 employees, and we maintain and support the Department of Defence’s logistic application systems. I love working here because I want to make a contribution to the success of government. My job is interesting because we are dealing with people’s lives, be it South African or external citizens, and we need to check our back and actions at all times. We need to improve our way of doing things, all the time guided by our SITA policies and procedure and also that of the government that we serve with pride. The type of person who thrives here is one who always bears in mind that the actions they take, can be to the benefit or the detriment of the South African citizen.’
